Biblical Giving

A Word From Pastor Jon On Giving

From the earliest days of Jesus’ public ministry he spoke about giving. He turned the conventional wisdom of his day on its head by teaching that riches were not necessarily a sign of God’s favor and rich people did not have a better chance of going to heaven because they could give more—in fact, He shocked his disciples by saying that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven (Mt 19:23-24)! Jesus’ consistent teaching was that money is a tool for folks to use for eternity by investing in the Gospel ministry—the preaching of the word of God, mission outreach, kindness and generosity to others—so that unbelievers will come to know Jesus Christ as personal Savior (Mt 6:19-21). He praised the faithful use of resources for the Master as a basis for even more responsibility in the coming Kingdom (Mt 25:14-30); he also warned of the deceptive nature of money-- how it will often take control of a person’s heart and life (Lk 16:13), and how loving it leads us into all kinds of trouble (1 Tim 6:10).

Our desire at Centerpoint is to encourage you to obey the teaching of God’s word on the subject of giving by providing opportunities to invest in the Gospel ministry, and to be involved in the Kingdom work of reaching the unsaved with the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ. Whether giving to the ministry of Centerpoint so that we can continue to feed the flock of God here in Pagosa and reach out to those who have yet to understand the gospel; to our Missions program that will enable us to continue to support mission efforts in our “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world”; or to our benevolence fund that enables us to help those in our community with physical needs while sharing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and His offer of salvation, our prayer is that by investing the resources that God has entrusted into your care you will be continually laying up treasure in heaven. Paul reminds us that we will reap as we sow—either sparingly or bountifully—and that we should give as we have decided in our hearts, not letting anyone pressure us or guilt us into giving (2 Cor 9:6-7). God is able to provide all we need to be cheerful and generous in our giving, and He loves to bless us with joy and an even greater ability to give as we faithfully give what He has entrusted to us (2 Cor 9:8-15).

We promise to use your contributions prayerfully and carefully to further God’s work both at home and abroad, and assure you that we will invest with a view to see souls saved and lives changed. Thank you for joining us in the Gospel ministry at Centerpoint Church! May eternity reveal the eternal dividends of our investment for the Kingdom while we are serving God here on earth!
